Hatha Yoga
Basics
This class focuses on the practice of basic postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama) of Hatha yoga. Sun salutations, standing poses, supine and seated poses, basic forward- and back-bending poses, twisting poses, and preparation for inversions will be covered. The approach is gentle and noncompetitive. Each student learns to work at her/his own level of ability and challenge, building strength, increasing flexibility, and heightening concentration.
This class is appropriate for beginners as well as for more experienced students who want to improve their understanding and practice of the basics.
Hatha Yoga Basics is an ongoing class and may be joined at any time. Yoga mats and props are provided. (For reasons of personal hygiene and facilitation of a home yoga practice, it is highly recommended that continuing students acquire and bring their own yoga mats.)

INSTRUCTOR
BIOS
Gregg
Turner
Gregg found yoga back in the late nineties when a friend suggested it was a great compliment to his long distance running & Buddhist meditation practice. He completed his teacher training with Melina Meza & Anne Phyfe Palmer at the Eight Limbs Yoga Center . He has also studied with Sarah Powers, Rodney Yee, Lisa Black & Seane Corn. Gregg is deeply inspired by the meditative energetic focus that stems from daily yin yoga, a decade of meditation practice, & time spent with his teachers in the jungles of Costa Rica .
Gregg's classes emphasize slowing down & paying attention to the body in motion, as well as core & breath awareness. As his own practice has moved from Power Vinyasa & Bikram towards a slower, yin influenced style, he has come to feel that you can move further into yoga through surrender than effort. He hopes to share the intensity & strength of this experience with those who come to his classes.
