In 2001, Mind & Body / SeattlePilates.com moved to 21st and Union in the Central District of Seattle. It was our dream to create a studio for Pilates that was unconventional, approachable and knowledgeable while bringing our individual passion to our teaching. We think we have created such a place. With 16 foot ceilings, soaring curtains and large japanese lanterns, our Pilates studio is definitely 'cool' (we think anyway). Even our unique Pilates wall system (12 of them! invented by the studio owner) adds to the feel of the studio.
But it is our 'toys' and our circuit classes that keep bringing our clients back. We have the traditional Pilates Reformers, Chairs, Barrels, Cadillac as well as the Magic Circles. But wait there's more: Weighted balls, foam rollers, blankets, washcloths, therabands, Kettlebells, medicine balls, Dumbbells and Jump ropes. We have Ergs (rowing machines) as well as the Gravity Training System. Oh yes, and the TRX and Pull up station. That's all for now. . . I think.
With all of these toys, every class is different. But every class is also soundly grounded in the principles of Joe Pilates and every variation we teach can be traced back to the original classical method. All of our teachers are classically trained but that hasn't stopped any of us from modifying and varying the exercises for greater variety to keep the Mind engaged as well as the Body.
We hope that Mind and Body is the kind of Pilates studio that is neither intimidating, boring or aloof. We want you to learn about your body, get a great workout, listen to good music and have some fun too.
